Sunday doesn't have to be the longest day in your life. Go and see what God can do for you.

Grange neighbourhood policy for our young people.

Can we provide what they want? We'll ask them.

Positive Futures

Questions, questions, questions, do we get any answers?

Worried about the young people of today? In groups do they sometimes frighten you? Do we understand them? It wasn’t like that in our day! Are young people with shaven heads and hoods all hooligans? Why did the council close down the youth clubs? Is vandalism any worse than in our day? What are the authorities doing about organising, harnessing and utilising the positive energies of our young people? What do we provide to entertain and interest these young people?  These are just a few of the many questions that concern us older generation. If we are to help allay peoples fears then we must welcome and support any positive change. We must do our own little bit in providing a refuge / facility for these young people. It is important we press on and upgrade our church and church hall and welcome back Morris Dancing Groups and other ventures that will lead to character building for our young people. We must change to meet the needs of today’s society. Change is coming! Have you heard of POSITIVE FUTURES for the Grange.

Positive Futures

Positive Futures is an organisation whose remit is to work with the young people on the Grange Estate. This concern has only been in existence for three weeks and already a forum of parents and children has been held in the Grangeway Centre. The purpose of the forum was to gather information from mainly young adults (age 10 to 19) to ascertain activities they can identify with so all are socially included, and the activities to be organised for them has in their language ’street cred’. Not only sport and leisure activities will be provided but education via the various activities on the dangers of drink and drugs. Many activities will be managed by young people themselves under the guidance of the leader of the group Colin Hughes. As needs must further professional help will be recruited to help as a resource or to act as a role model. This is not your ordinary 9 till 5 organisation, Colin visualises working from 6pm till 10pm. Meeting and talking with youngsters about their concerns. Colin has worked in Preston and North Liverpool and brings with him a wealth of knowledge on how to interact with and understand young peoples concerns. He can make a big step change on the Grange Estate but he cannot do it on his own. We as parents must offer our undoubted skills, talents and time. For the moment Colin has an office at Halton Voluntary Action headquarters in Public Hall St. (off Church Street) in Runcorn. He would be happy to talk to you. Better still, if you can help then contact him on 07818077047.

An Atheist

A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.

"Because I'm not an atheist."

Then, asks the teacher, "What are you?"

"I'm a Christian."

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Christian. "Well, I was brought up knowing and loving Jesus. My mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian." The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly.

"What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"

She paused, and smiled. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be an atheist."

If The Earth

If the Earth were only a few feet in diameter.

Floating a few feet above a field somewhere

People would come from everywhere to marvel at it.

People would walk around it marveling at its big pools

of water, its little pools of water flowing between the pools.

People would marvel at the bumps on it and the holes in it, and they would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas.

The people would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the ball, and all the creatures in the water.

The people would declare it PRECIOUS because it was the only one and they would protect it so that it would not be hurt.

The BALL would be the greatest wonder known,

And people would come to behold it, to be healed, to gain knowledge. To know beauty and wonder how it could be.

People would love it and defend it with their lives, because they would somehow know that their lives, their own roundness would be nothing without it.

IF THE EARTH WERE ONLY A FEW FEET IN DIAMETER.
